Week in Review

I could put this in 4 posts to make it look like I am posting more, but instead I will put it all in one post...one long post.

Wednesday - Due to Christmas, they opened the gym on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. We had 4 people show up for volleyball and we got to play 2 on 2 for 3 hours. I was a bit tired by the end of it, but it was fun. Steve got a new indoor ball for Christmas and it was much better than the other ones we normally play with. Afterwards, 3 of us went over to Applebees and enjoyed the half off appetizers. Naturally, I picked up the tab since the group was small ;).

Thursday/Friday - Not much occured on these two days. I found a really good deal on one of the games that I have wanted to get. I managed to get it for $20 off plus another $25 off from gift cards thus resulting in me getting a $60 game for about $15. While I was at it I picked up Matt a copy so that we can play it together.

Saturday - I got the pleasure of helping one of my friends, Gretchen, move from her apartment to her new place. It took a little longer than I hoped, but it was a good time hanging out with everyone and helping someone out. After the moving was done, Wanda, Michelle, and I all went to see National Treasure 2. It was a good movie and was fun hanging out with my wife and with Michelle.

Sunday - Church was good as usual. We managed to get 16 people (3 of which were kids) to go to Davani's and we had a lot of fun. There was one new couple there that I met a few weeks ago. It was fun to get to know them. Wanda and I went home, played some xbox, watched some TV, and then headed to yet another movie with Michelle. This time we went to see the movie P.S. I Love You. It was definitly a chick flick, but once again I enjoyed spending time with Wanda and Michelle. As I am typing this I am sitting in front of the TV while Wanda watches the last season of Gilmore girls. My masculinity is bruised so I am going to stop writing and go to bed.

That about sums it up for me.

Sick Dog

Note - I will try to make this post as pleasant as possible but it was not the most pleasant thing for us. If the topic of "gas", not the automobile kind, bothers you then you may not want to read this post.

So...while Bailey was out at my parent's house she got into something rather nasty. We believe that she may have thrown up on Christmas morning (we didn't actually see or hear this). She was then outside until around 9:30 when we left to go to Wanda's Gramdma's. Two times during the 20 minute trip to her Grandma's we had to open the windows in the truck because Bailey had some rather bad gas. Now I have smelled my share of gas before but I had never smelled something this bad from a dog or human. It was bad!

Well...we took her outside to do her business and we were hoping that was the last of it (she had the runs). We took her back inside and the gas kept coming on occasion. It was pretty bad when everyone (about 14 of us) showed up to open presents and we are all sitting in the room and all of a sudden people would get up and walk out of the room because it stunk so bad! (Note that we can't just let her outside to run in town like we can at my parent's house...thus she stays in the house with us.)

Needless to say, there were some rather cool moments on the ride home as the windows were rolled down on occasion. I think we can safely say that my Parent's chose the more "pleasant" evening of the two to spend time with us.

We got a good laugh over it all but boy does it stink. We are hoping she will be over this soon and that there won't be any suprises for us when we get home today after work.

Merry Christmas

I hope this blog posting finds all of you having a great holiday and a Merry Christmas (yes, I know I am writing this the day after Christmas).

Saturday night I got sick (only vomited once) and didn't get much sleep. I still managed to go to Church (even though Allison informed me that I should be at home like Isaac). Either way, I fought through the day, although I didn't feel the greatest. I don't think I hardly ate anything on Sunday. We were debating on what to do for Christmas if I was still feeling sick. We didn't really have to make that decision since I was feeling better by Monday.

We left town on Monday afternoon, went to a Christmas Eve Service at my parent's church, and then went out to my parent's home. We opened some gifts with my parents and just relaxed around the fireplace. I ended the the evening helping Wanda get some homework done.

On Tuesday we ate breakfast with my parents and then travelled in to Wanda's grandma's house. I got to help Grandma put together a puzzle, open gifts, and enjoy the time with family (especially some of my neices). We had a good time. We drove home and got back before the traffic/roads were too bad.

Our dog got a little sick, but I will post about that in the next blog entry :)

Yet another cool Google Item

I don't know if you have ever used the Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer but I do. They have a new Beta version of their toolbar out (T5) and from what I have seen so far I really like it. Some of the cool features that I think I will find useful and really like are as follows:
  • Accessing the toolbar from any computer (so at home and at work I can have the same toolbar). Similar to how the Bookmarks work but now it will also work with your Form data and other settings.
  • Integration of a new "Find" bar which replaces Internet Explorers "Find" dialog box. Googles new Find bar reminds me of the default find bar in Firefox.
  • Google Notebook integrated into the toolbar.
  • Ability to add custom buttons such as Google Reader (so I can find out when you post to your blogs), Google calendar, and Google Maps. This feature may have been in the old version, but I never used it.

Everyone has their favorite toolbars. Some people have the Yahoo, MSN, or AOL toolbars (all of which I find very annoying). I prefer to just have the Google toolbar as it has many of the main things that I use relatively frequently.

If you are interested in downloading the beta version of the toolbar go here.

Joy

Joy...such a short 3 letter word....yet so hard to have sometimes. I try to live my life with Joy. I try not to let things get me down and get under my skin...and I think I do a pretty good job at it (Wanda may say differently at times). I know that God is in control and that He takes care of me and I can rejoice in Him for that. While doing my devotions I came across the following quote which I thought I would share with all of you...my faithful, young (most of you) readers:

"There's a big difference between rejoicing in the Lord and rejoicing in our circumstances! If circumstances dominate our thinking, we will exhaust our energy with efforts at changing our circumstances, and we will find ourselves joyless and despairing. But if we perceive God, who transcends our circumstances and works through our circumstances, to be in control in the midst of our circumstances, then he will fill our mind. The trust and assurance that result become the womb of our renewed joy. But it doesn't just happen automatically. [...] we have to make a choice and say, "I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation." Being joyful is a choice."
-- Quote by Stuart Briscoe in "The One Year Book of Devotions for Men".

Make the choice today to be joyful ... no matter what circumstances may surround you.

Time for another blog entry

It was brought to my attention last night that I hadn't posted since last Monday...so here is another post. Now to decide what I should write about.

Hmm...how about Traffic. Being the impatient efficient people that most of us are, traffic is one thing that we do not particularly enjoy. But have you ever tried to figure out what causes all those slow downs? You sit and sit in the traffic and then when you get "to the front of the line" there is no accident and no real reason why the traffic should be slow...at least that you can see.

Let's take my ride in to work today for example. There was no snow or ice on the roads...the roads have actually been in good shape for a few days. But when I went to get on the interstate the traffic was already backed up all the way past my onramp at a stop and go pace. I patiently sat in the traffic for about 15 minutes till I got to my exit. As expected there was no accident, no cars on the side of the road, and no cops around. Just slow traffic and lots of red lights. Then once I got past that one spot, the traffic moved smoothly the rest of the way. I would love to know the cause of these slow downs (not that knowing this would make any difference, but it would at least answer one of those questions that I have in my mind).

Traffic is not always a bad thing. It gives you plenty of time to talk with God, to talk to your wife (as I do many mornings), to listen to the radio, or just enjoy some time alone. It also gives us a chance to be nice to those around us, even though it may slow us down even more. How do you be nice? You let people in when they want to switch lanes. You don't ride someone elses bumper. You don't honk your horn. You wave to thank someone who let you get in front of them.

Are you being nice while you are sitting in traffic? Are you taking advantage of the extra time that God gives you every morning (and evenings)?

Google Maps - New Feature

I am a huge fan of Google. When their maps came out I instantly made them my favorite and have pretty much quit using anyone of the other maps sites (no offense but Mapquest needs to get with the ages). They seem to come out with things before others and then the other sites seem to go about copying them.

The newest feature that they have added is the ability to edit a location. So if you search for your house and find that it is putting your house slightly in the wrong position (say a few houses down...like mine) then you can edit it and put the marker in the correct location. I did this for my house as it was down a few houses. I corrected it and now when you search for my address you will find the moved marker. You can see that it was edited but you can also see the original if you want.

I think this is a great addition. One thing to note is that if you move the marker more than 200 meters then it will not take effect immediately as Google must need to verify this. I did this to a friends house and I am still waiting for the change to take affect. It shows that I modified it, but it hasn't moved from the original yet. Either way, it is great for those who don't have an online map service that maps correctly to their location as now they can correct the map and have people use that map service. Very cool!
