Misc Photos

I was playing around with my blog settings and noticed a new element that you can add to your blog, a slideshow. The even better part is you can tie it in with Picasa Web, Flickr, and others. Thus, on the left of my blog you will now see a "Misc Photos" that pulls from my one public Picasa Web photo album. It is always nice to see products integrated together for easier usage. I'm sure some of you individuals who love photos more than me will want to take advantage of this feature.

By the way, if any of you want to learn how to easily monitor other people's blog postings, let me know and I will help you out.

Worship without Music

Yesterday we had a great worship sevice at church...and there was no music! So many times when we hear the word "worship" or talk about worship we think about music...yet worship is so much more than just music. They had a great video clip about worship and they went through all the things that worship is not and then what through the things that worship is. I wish I had the video to share with you (and to watch again).

One thing that I particularly enjoyed about the service was the reading of the songs, instead of singing them. So many times I have gotten to know the lyrics of a song and you just sing them from memory and it doesn't always sink in what you are singing. By reading the words it made you focus on what you were reading and not just singing from memory. Sometimes instead of singing along with a song I just like to read the words and let them sink in.

If you missed the sermon, you can listen to it at the GCR Website.

LOST

Wanda started to watch Lost with me this season, but she is a little, dare I say it...lost. Thus, we are going to be renting the first two seasons. Last night we watched the first 4 episodes together. There aren't a lot of new shows on TV right now, so this is a good time to be watching them. It also gives me a good refresher on everything that has happened so far.

We also went to see a movie yesterday...Definitly, Maybe. Despite it being a "chick flick", it is always fun to spend time with Wanda.

Weekly Quota of Volleyball

Tonight I do not get to play volleyball as I have a PESC meeting at church. We have not met the last couple months so hopefully we have enough time to cover everything.

I enjoy being able to play Volleyball at least once a week and this week I am lucky enough to still be able to do that, despite the PESC meeting tonight. On Thursday I get to play as a sub for someone on their Volleyball League team. This means I will still get my weekly quota of volleyball in! The gym (if you can call it that) isn't nearly as nice as the one in Woodbury, but it still works.

For any of you Tuesday players that read this, have fun playing VB tonight and I will look forward to seeing you next week. BTW - When are we going to make another Applebee's run on Tuesday?

Website Woes

Thanks to everyone who let me know that the Xpedition site was down on Sunday and half of Monday. The Xpedition site is one of 5 personal sites that I run/maintain. All 5 of them were down (completely inaccessible) starting sometime on Sunday. On Monday they slowly started to return one at a time. The worst part about it all was that the actual host website was also down, meaning I couldn't even report that there was an issue (although I'm pretty sure they knew about it).

One way or another, they all came back up by sometime Monday night. I hate it when this sort of thing happens, but thankfully I can state that it was completely out of my control and that it was not my fault that you all could not use some of those sites.

The good that came out of this is that I found out that people do use the sites and they find those sites useful for finding the information they are looking for. I wish I could guarantee that this won't happen again, but unfortunatly that is out of my control.

Thoughts on Valentines Day

Yesterday KTIS was talking about Valentine’s Day and it got me thinking.

When you think of Valentine’s Day, what are the first 3 words/phrases that come to mind? I believe the 3 most common words would probably be Flowers, Jewelry, and Chocolate. Most Valentine’s Day advertising is about those 3 things (I'm not counting the ads for ED as you hear those year round). So my question to you is whether you think that Valentine’s Day is targeted more towards couples/relationships or towards doing something for the woman?

I personally feel that it is targeted more towards the woman than the relationship. I don't recall seeing a TV commercial where the woman buys the man a new Watch, a Cabella's gift card, or something most guys would be interested in. Instead, it is always the guy doing something for the girl. Doing things for each other is about the relationship, no doubt, but the advertisements almost always seem to be only about the Man doing something for the woman...not the other way around.

Now I will recognize a possibility that the reason the commercials are all about guys doing things is because we need the reminder whereas the woman is more likely to remember. Either way, I will stand by my argument that it is targeted more towards doing something for the woman.

I personally feel that, assuming you are dating/married, Valentine’s Day should be about the relationship and doing something special for each other. It is a time to do something extra special for the loved one in your life. For those who are single, you probably do not enjoy this day quite as much as some. I hope you can find someone you can call your valentine for the day, (niece/nephew, close friend, grandparent, etc) and do something special for them.

Note - I am in no way implying that women don't do anything for Valentine’s Day as I know many of them do. What did you do for Valentine’s Day for that special someone in your life?

Superbowl Party - Why do you go?

Tonight I went to a superbowl party with most of my good friends. Being with friends is the most important part of these parties to me. I thrive on the time with friends and enjoy the community with others. Sitting at home by myself watching the superbowl just wouldn't be near as much fun to me (in fact, it is possible I wouldn't even watch it).

However, I do enjoy the commercials and the game is even fun to watch. Oh...the food is always good as well!

So, my question to all of you is this: If you went to a Superbowl Party, why did you go? Was it to watch the game? Watch the commercials? Spend time with friends? To eat the Food? Or something else?
